DEUS MEUS OMNIA OSF® HEALTHCARE To our patients and community members: PAID ADVERTISEMENT OSF HealthCare is proud to have served the communities in the I-80 area for decades. Founded by The Sisters of the Third Order of St. Francis in 1877, the OSF HealthCare Mission has always been to serve people with the greatest care and love. This Mission drives our plans to invest more than $180 million into these communities. Building a vibrant regional healthcare system, with hospital campuses in Ottawa, Peru, Mendota and Princeton, ensures access to care for all in the region. Rural hospitals across the nation are closing at an alarming rate. That's why we are investing here at home to create a regional approach that maintains healthcare in our rural area for decades to come. We know some of you have concerns. We also know many understand why a regional approach makes sense. The current Ottawa hospital facility needs to be replaced. Clinical departments are inefficiently arranged, and privacy in patient rooms is sorely lacking. The upgrades and replacements required to meet the structural, mechanical, electrical, plumbing, safety, security and communication systems are significant. And these investments are risky given the facility's flooding exposure due to its proximity to the Fox River. A new hospital facility that combines inpatient and outpatient services is not just a necessity. It aligns with how patients today receive care. For every hospital admission, there are almost 50 outpatient visits, and a new Ottawa hospital will cater to these needs. We were saddened by the sudden closures of the hospitals in Peru and Spring Valley due to financial distress and eventual bankruptcy. These closures left a void for the care of many people in LaSalle, Putnam and Bureau counties. By reopening the Peru facility as a second OSF Saint Elizabeth Medical Center campus, we can modernize how healthcare is delivered and improve access for the entire region, not just one community. Healthcare resources are not infinite, and accessing both dollars and vital clinical staff has only grown more challenging. We aim to improve the lives of those we serve. Our $180 million investment is a big step toward achieving that vision and is critical to maintaining healthy and vibrant communities in our rural areas.
